NEW HIJRAH YEAR!

Muharram 1428
A year has ended. And i meant in Islamic Calendar.

And yesterday in the evening, muslims around the world marks the beginning of the NEW YEAR in ISlamic Calendar.

The Islamic calendar was first introduced by the close companion of the Prophet, 'Umar ibn Al-Khattab. During his leadership of the Muslim community, in approximately 638 A.D., he consulted with his advisors in order to come to a decision regarding the various dating systems used at that time.

The Islamic year has twelve months that are based on a lunar cycle.

Allah says in the Qur'an:
"The number of months in the sight of Allah is twelve (in a year) - so ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth...." (9:36).

"It is He Who made the sun to be a shining glory, and the moon to be a light of beauty, and measured out stages for it, that you might know the number of years and the count of time. Allah did not create this except in truth and righteousness. And He explains His signs in detail, for those who understand" (10:5).

And in his final sermon before his death, the Prophet Muhammad said, among other things, "With Allah the months are twelve; four of them are holy; three of these are successive and one occurs singly between the months of Jumaada and Sha'ban."

Islamic months begin at sunset of the first day, the day when the lunar crescent is visually sighted. Lunar year is approximately 354 days long, so the months rotate backward through the seasons and are not fixed to the Gregorian calendar.

For your information, here are the meanings behind the names of each month in ISLAMIC calendar.

1. Muharram ("Forbidden" - it is one of the four months during which it is forbidden to wage war or fight)

2. Safar ("Empty" or "Yellow")

3. Rabia Awal ("First spring")

4. Rabia Thani ("Second spring")

5. Jumaada Awal ("First freeze")

6. Jumaada Thani ("Second freeze")

7. Rajab ("To respect" - this is another holy month when fighting is prohibited)

8. Sha'ban ( "To spread and distribute")

9. Ramadan ("Parched thirst" - this is the month of daytime fasting)

10. Shawwal ("To be light and vigorous")

11. Dhul-Qi'dah ("The month of rest" - another month when no warfare or fighting is allowed)

12. Dhul-Hijjah ("The month of Haj" - this is the month of the annual pilgrimage to Mecca,

again when no warfare or fighting is allowed)

It is then up to muslims ourselves to remind ourselves and our muslim brothers/sisters to seek Allah's forgiveness and to change to become a better muslim. Being the last ummah has alot of challenges and i myself knew how hard to be a good muslim when everywhere around us doubts the credibility of our pure religion. Wa'allahualam.

May the new year brings forward a blessed year for everyone!

Bon Voyage My friend!!

17 Jan 2007
Thats yesterday
Thats the day
my good friend leave Singapore
for France
I was there
To bid him farewell
-sad-

2 & 1/2 years of preparation
And thats what he takes
To learn French and to save money
But there he seeks knowledge
For it

holds no barrier
Not the culture or the language
Flying across Continents
Into a new country
It is something very
difficult
Yet there are no
challenges u cant overcome
For now
Only my prayers i had for u
May u be a wise man
That u can become into
Bon Voyage for now
May i see u again
in 6 months from now
Selamat Jalan Hoirul!!!

The following pictures paints the moments me and some silat guys came to bid him farewell.

Bon Voyage!

The 4 of them plus me being the earlier ones to reach amongst Hoirul battalion of family members and relatives.

Lendra and Hoirul. The MAN wears a coat on his last day in Singapore.

The silat guys who came over to see his departure. Lendra macam biase ada TERlebih.

Second shot taken.

The solemn moment when he hugs all his relatives right before he clears the immigration counter. tears can be seen flowing down everyone eyes.

"Gimme a hug, adik"

One last shot for silateers who came. Didnt expect this much people to arrive.

Muka step pose by the hunks of NUS silat! hahaah

" One week of MANY weeks of WORK"

Today marks my 1st completed week of Work at ICES. Nothing so grand about that place though. Not even the job that im doing. Plain normal coz im still learning the scope of research the prof is doing and trying to get my brains together. But one thing for sure, i realised that all the previous attachments before me were girls and im the FIRST guy to do this.

Why? Coz i realised im doing all about cosmetics applications and trying to produce "chemicals" for the skins and face. I knew that when i chose this area of research coz i wanna try something different. VERY different. hahaaaa... Sorry to my fellow NUS girls who chose this but couldnt get it.

So........................ I have tried smelling and working with so many essential oils known famously to woman and "MeN-WHO-ARE-SO-VAIN-and-wears-so-many-facial-washes-in-1-day".

TeaTree Oils, Lavender, Eucalyptus, Grapefruit, Bergamot and so many more..

Take a look below! My days there are filled with glorious scents and all those anti-oxidants.

My lab table holds a thousand different combinations of chemicals and microemulsions. There are many more in the cupboard below. Can only pray that i dont lose my samples!

As per normal, u gonna have style! so i took my own pic with my hp when no one is there.

So there u go. Research work aint better than doing the normal lab during my semester days but the difference is that i got paid and the workload is so much lessssssssss... The professor uses the brain and im more of the brauns or hands to help him. So not much thinking but im looking forward to doing more and trying out my hands on more advanced equipments. May my time there flies so fast, i can only think of spending the hard earned money.
