During my primary school to secondary school days, 'jiwang songs' are usually Rock Bands from Malaysia or Singapore. Bands like Wings, Exists, Lovehunter, Ekamatra, Lestari, Bumiputra Rockers and not forgetting Spoon and the lists goes on and on. Their 'malar segar' (evergreen) songs never fails to impress even till now. Jiwang habis!! But now, its so sad to see that malaysia-singapore region did not replace enough to take over those superb bands that existed during my younger years. Now most singers are solo and if there are bands, it usually sux. (except the new exist.. haha)
NOw times have changed. Most bands never last. They will split and soon lead singers take on solo roles. Some of the band songs sux and the lyrics are never meant to mean anything. Main hantam asalkan boleh nyanyi. For me, my taste for jiwang songs has shifted to another country, INDONESIA. The country known for dangdut and keroncong (if u know what i mean).
Bands have sprouted there like mushrooms after a rainy days. And these guys 'cool-refreshing-jiwang songs' live up to their name and have came out with albums that doesnot only contain one hit wonder, but nearly all the songs are SUPERB. Cayalah Indo-band.
Bands from Sheila on 7, Peterpan, Adaband, Radja, Dewa, Gigi , Padi etc have all produced numerous range of music from Soul to R&B to Rock ballad. Its time to change gear and listen to all these bands for a taste of new Jiwang songs. U can never be disapponted.
