" Are Malays still lazy? are we still not progressing?"

About 3 days ago i read an interesting news about Malays and how our own AMP (Association of Muslim Professionals) president (Mr Imran Mohd) criticises the progress of the Malays and how the malays have yet to keep up with the new economy. He added, ' malays.. has alot of social problems that are affecting our community". he brought up a few good points.
firstly, a large fraction of delinquents are malays. There are so many drug addicts that are unsurprisingly Malay and the community are still overcoming moral issues pertaining to underage pregnancy and pre-marital sex.

I cant agree more. i am a Malay but i agree no less to what Mr Imran has said. i am not afraid to look at my own community and tell myself that we are still far away from how other races have progress. Why is it that there are so many such problems occuring? Why is it that we see so many MATS and MINAHs all around? And why is it that when a malay see another malay doing well, we end up not supporting each other.

So i ask myself...am i proud of being a malay? answer is YES and NO. YEs because if there is so much culture and tradition that we still hold on too. Being a minority helps when i am among a large number of chinese or other races. This spurs me to do as well as them. (3 malays in 300 chem engine in my batch). No because when i look at the bigger picture, theres so much problems that we are facing. Everywhere i go, there will be the 'other-side-of-malay' being displayed hanging around orchard or esplanade. Making havoc and noises and the number are increasing. THAT is the problem! Social problems are on the rise and malay guys/girls with tattoo and coloured hairs, talking in vulgarities and the list goes on and on.

I dont understand why young people wants to follow all these trends. What is so great about being a 'trash of the society'. I alwaz believe that these punksters want to earn a certain identity.They dont feel a need to do well in this life i guess. or even the afterlife. God Bless.

So Mr Imran in his speech, cited that the lack of 'semangat' in the Malay community to do well when they are given fair chance to succeed with the other races. A change of mindset and the roles of the public and Malay-governing bodies to act and help these kids. MY take on this:
These social problems can be curbed easily when they are educated with religious knowledge and having a control over their movements. Of course Mendaki and also other bodies can help with getting them engrossed with activities to keep them away from the trashes.

Let me show u an example shown by NUS malay undergraduates. Im sorry if any of u knew this guys. Most of u should have read about a play being shown at esplanade about 'melayu.com.sg'. They wanted to show the realism and explore the social issues of Malay community but what do they get?
------> criticisms by criticisms...

People have wrote in to Berita Harian about how they are dressed (look at the red circles in the pic) and how the undergrads make a BIG mistake about showing art as art itself. Why is there a need to have a play on these issues????? We all know already and its so common. And worst, the message that they wanted to show becomes a message for them instead. People asked if that is what they usually dressed. I think these NUS undergrads are making a joke of themselves. Sorry but even the public asked,"Why must we watch it??"

well u guys go figure!
